Volkswagen Vento has received an updated 1.5 litre diesel unit tuned to produce higher power output. This is the same engine that powers Ameo diesel and Skoda Rapid facelift. Featuring a larger turbocharger, the updated 1.5 litre TDI engine develops 108bhp as against the previous 103bhp. Other than this, Vento also gets a new paint shade-Silk Blue to the line-up.

Volkswagen Vento was introduced in India during the early years after the German brand started operation in India in 2007. The sedan has undergone multiple changes since then and was lately tweaked, featuring a string of high-end new equipment. Vento line-up is available with a choice of three engines including two petrol and one diesel units, mated to a manual gearbox with an option for a DSG tranny.


Volkswagen Vento has evolved from the Polo platform and the car has been oftentimes introduced to Indian customers as the Polo sedan. Both these engines are mated to a manual gearbox but there is also a DSG gearbox available with the 1.2 Litre unit.

The Vento diesel variant is powered by a 1.5 TDI Turbocharged, Common rail direct injection unit which is capable of producing about 105 ps of peak power at 4400 rpm and an impressive 250 Nm of torque in between 1500-2500 rpm. The diesel engine has been mated to a manual as well as DSG gearbox.

According to Volkswagen both the petrol engines fuel efficiency has been improved by almost 7 percent. The 1.2-liter TSI is claimed to return about 18.19 km/l which is about 1.26 km/l more while the 1.5-liter TDI promises to return 20.64 km/l for the MT variant and 21.5 km/l for the DSG variant which is almost 0.3 km/l and 0.29 km/l more respectively.


The Vento has always been known for its dynamic capabilities. It is a very involving car to drive. Handling is amazing and ride quality is good too. The suspension set-up is slightly stiff but it helps negate body roll. The sedan comes with Apollo Alnac tyres and these offer superior levels of grip on various types of road surfaces. The Vento moves over bad roads with ease but at slightly high speeds, it does feel a little unsettled. The steering feels good and gives you lots of confidence and braking is also very sharp.


The Volkswagen Vento comes with two airbags and ABS. The vehicle has strong build quality and the cabin feels like a safe and assuring place to be in. Talking about after-sales service, Volkswagen doesn’t really excel much in this department. The company really lags behind its rivals by a huge margin when it comes to after-sales. There have been numerous complaints about Volkswagen giving sub-standard levels of service while the company’s service network is also not as widespread as rivals. However, the German carmaker is expanding its reach across the country. They currently have around 118 dealerships across 100 cities in India.


The Volkswagen Vento was always a competitive car in the C+ segment, having some unparalleled virtues. These virtues like a robust build, good ride and handling and a responsive engine are still retained and in addition it gets some features that are now desired by customers in this segment.
