Merscedes Benz AMG S63 Overview,Price,Equipments,Features & Specifications

Mercedes-Benz India is on a launch spree and has officially introduced the 2015 S63 AMG four-door saloon in the country, priced at Rs. 2.53 Crores (ex-showroom, Bangalore). This is the ninth Mercedes to be launched in the country this year out of the total 15 promised by the German automaker and is the fire breathing derivative of the extremely luxurious S-Class saloon tuned by the team at Affalterbach. The Mercedes S63 AMG saloon resembles closely to the stock S-Class but gets several AMG bits that gives its performance credentials including the redesigned bumper with larger air intakes, V8 badges on the front fenders, blacked out roof and a rear diffuser. The trademark AMG quad exhausts also make an appearance and emit the sweet sounding V8 grunt that is hard to miss. The saloon rides on 20-inch AMG alloy wheels.

Nothing changes prominently on the outside, except for a few knick knacks that bring it at par with the rest of the members of AMG family. The AMG kit bestowed on the sedan sets it apart from the regular variant of S-Class. AMG elements like chrome inserts, 20-inch AMG wheels and a lowered suspension vary it from the usual S-Class. Besides, front facade gets a larger bumper with bigger air-intakes. A front splitter is also equipped on the outside, while rear features an inbuilt diffuser and quad exhaust. Side skirts are infixed relatively lower and lend a sporty character to the exteriors. A lip spoiler is yet another feature that is fitted on the outside.

This is likely to be one of the few AMGs to have a gearstick on the steering column than the sporty AMG gearshifter at the centre. The steering wheel is chunky and good to grip with flappy paddles that make it a joy to shift. The large LED display for the instrument cluster and the centre console makes the S Coupe look very tech-loaded and modern.

15.The front row seats are comfortable and do look sporty. They are a hybrid of luxury and sportiness, so it has lumber support, while the side support is dynamic and in sync with the steering input for best support. We had experience something similar with the E63 AMG, this has been further personified for better support. The space in the second row is also decent, though it might be a bit tight for long people. The rear seat is extremely comfortable and there the seat is cosy. There is space for two people only as there is a centre arm-rest as well. You will only have difficulty to sit at the back only if you are a six-footer and front seat is occupied by someone who is equally tall too. The toy quotient on the S63 AMG is high thanks to its connect with the S-Class. The seatbelt is offered to you by a robotic butler everytime you step inside. The sunroof tints automatically to avoid harsh sun rays from intruding into the cabin.

While the V-12-powered S65 carries over with the same unit, the S63 ditched the old 5.5-liter V-8 for the twin-turbo, 4.0-liter powerplant. The new V-8 cranks out 603 horsepower, a 26-horsepower increase, and a maximum of 664 pound-feet of torque, which is identical to the outgoing model. However, torque is now available across a wider rev range, between 2,750 and 4,500 rpm. Sprinting from 0 to 60 mph takes only 3.4 seconds, a half-second improvement. All told, the AMG S63 joins the ranks of Mercs that benefit from the advantages of the “hot inner V” design of the 4.0-liter unit, including immediate response from the turbochargers, low exhaust emissions thanks to optimum airflow and close-coupled catalytic converters. It also features AMG Cylinder Management, which deactivates four cylinders in the partial-load range, reducing fuel consumption.

Alongside the new engine comes the AMG Speedshift nine-speed transmission. Fitted for the first time on the AMG S63, it brings shorter shift times, fast multiple downshifts, and a rev-matching function to the big sedan. The 4Matic all-wheel-drive system continues as a standard feature. The Race Start function is also now available in the S63 sedan and it has a new and simplified operating logic: in the “Sport” or “Sport+” driving modes, the driver only has to press hard on the brake pedal with their left foot while fully depressing the accelerator pedal with their right foot at the same time. The on-board electronics will then set the optimum engine speed, depending on the requirements or the road surface conditions. As soon as the driver releases the brake pedal, the S63 takes off with optimal traction.

Effortless. That’s how the 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class feels when you’re behind the wheel. The steering is fairly light, and when equipped with lane-keeping assist and/or Distronic Plus cruise control, it will even subtly steer the car for you. Still, you’ll be surprised at how adeptly this very large sedan and coupe will hunker down and go around a corner. So well-rounded is the S-Class Sedan that it earned an Edmunds “A” rating for both the S550 and S 63 AMG. It should come as no surprise then, that the S550 Coupe also earned our top “A” rating as well. You may think you’ve enjoyed a comfortable ride before, but it most likely pales in comparison to the adjustable air suspension fitted as standard to the S-Class. Not only does it iron out bumps, it does so without a hint of floatiness. Plus, the ride gets even better with the sedan’s optional Magic Body Control. Utilizing a windshield-mounted camera, the car detects bumps and other imperfections in the road ahead and automatically adjusts the air suspension to compensate. We’re not exaggerating when we say that large speed humps can feel more like pebbles.

The cabin is bestowed with several protective aspects like ATTENTION assist system, night view assist plus, headlamp assist, intelligent LED light system, 8-airbags, programmable key with remote control opening and closing of windows, three point seat belts with belt tensioner, seat occupancy recognition for front passenger seat and three stage impact protection front crash. Apart from these, it has list of features like acceleration skid control, active blind spot assist, cross wind assist, tyre pressure loss warning system, under body protection, NECK-PRO crash responsive head restraints for front seats along with ISOFIX child seat mountings, attention assist and so on.

Mercedes Benz S63 AMG 002The S-Coupe is one of the most stylish Mercedes-Benz in the recent times and such designs are seen once in a decade. The AMG avatar means more power and of course higher cows too. If you are in a league to pick a Rolls Royce Wraith or a Bentley Continental, then the S63 AMG is this league. If your tastes are subtle and you have the desire for extreme performance in the lap of luxury then it is this coupe that has to be considered. If you want to arrive in a car that is just about looks and has good performance, then the S500 Coupe will be your pick.
